Becoming empowered: allowing God to use you… The Bible says you were saved to serve, did you know that? Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
You were saved to be an integral part of the Body. You are needed. You have gifts and skills that no one else can provide the way you do. It is true there is only one God, but it is also true there is only one you. He made you and saved you to be a key player as part of His church.
God didn’t save us to be souvenirs. Some Christians can be like souvenirs – their salvation is about something God did ONCE. A while ago. But they aren’t doing anything now. Just pointing to a past event. Something that was exciting, but in a sense is over. Doesn’t appear to have ongoing effects, just a good memory.
But God wants us to be more like power tools, NOT souvenirs!
Power tools are used to create, they are designed with a purpose like a power screwdriver or a drill or a chainsaw. They get power from a source and they go about their task of being used in the hand of someone who knows what he or she is doing and they CHANGE THINGS. They cut boards, chop down branches, drill holes.
God has made us to be tools in His hands. With a use that He has for us, connected to the power source of the Holy Spirit. To CHANGE THINGS through acts of love like watching babies in the nursery, or serving the poor, or tutoring kids in a city where many have lost hope. Through leading a small group Bible study or sharing your faith story with someone who doesn’t know Jesus yet. Through guys meeting each other Saturday morning or a woman setting up regular meetings with her female friend who doesn’t know Jesus yet.
Every single Christian was made to minister. No matter who you are – you were made to apply yourself, to share your story, your gifts to moving God’s kingdom forward.
This Healing, this Equipping, this Empowerment IS NOT JUST ABOUT US! It is about revealing the power and love of God to a world that desperately needs Him.
And even if you don’t know Jesus yet, or if you have just trusted in Him or you have fallen away, He wants you IN, He wants you BACK, He wants YOU!
